INTRODUCE THE SONG

LYRICS:

Stirring and stirring and

stirring my brew.

Ooo ooo, ooo, ooo

Stirring and stirring and

stirring my brew.

I’ll catch you!

1- Move freely to the vocal track.

Encourage students to stay in their personal space. Model “stirring” moves if needed.

2-Read the words.

3- Echo teach the lyrics until the students have the song memorized.

4-Sing the song.

5 Sing and move freely.

LEARN THE ACTIONS

1- Experiment with choreographed actions.

STIRRING-STIR

OOOO- ARMS WAVE UP AND DOWN

STIRRING- STIR

I’LL CATCH YOU! – JUMP AND PRETEND TO CATCH SOMETHING

2- Practice singing and moving.

WAVE A SCARF

Use a scarf as the witches broom.

Stir around and then wave scarf up and down on “oooooo” section of the song.

When you sing “I’ll catch you!” Toss the scarf into the air.

PLAY INSTRUMENTS

What will we put in our Witches Brew?

1- Brainstorm items to put into the stew.

For these Halloween objects:

Bones- rhythm sticks

Ghost dust-shaker

Eyeballs-xylophone

Toe of a zombie-Drum

Wing of a bat-Sand block

Fur of a cat-Wood or tone block

2-Ask students to choose sounds from classroom instruments or things in the house.

3- Give each student or a group different sounds to play as they pretend to make the stew.

4- Play the sounds on the OOOO part of the song.

5- Repeat the oooo section until all the ingredients are in the stew.

6-Finish with the last line.

 7- Put it all together.

SING AND PLAY A GAME

Play a game:  Students SIT in a circle.

1 student is in the middle of the circle pretending to be the witch.

2 Have the students bend down low to the ground crouching as if hiding from the witch’s spell.

3 Use a prop for the broomstick. On the words “I’ll catch you”, have the witch spin and point the broomstick at a student.

4 Whoever the witch lands on becomes the next witch. This game could be played using a scarf too!
