REVIEW USING STUDENT LED MODELING
Your students will love showing the class how to do the actions.
Try using slides from the presentation for this activity. Choose students to model each of the actions.
Break out into small groups and have each group show an action. Then put them together in a 4 beat pattern.
The more you include the students in leading the activity- the more they will remember and learn.
Honestly- it’s also a great way to build classroom community!
PRACTICE WITH A VARIETY OF MATERIALS
How can I say it? DIVERSIFY, DIVERSIFY, DIVERSIFY learning opportunities!
When there’s 25-30 students in the class, you will need a variety of learning opportunities to reach all your students.
Some may not like to “move”- but they’ll love COLORING!
Some may not like to drag and drop the images in google slides, but they’ll LOVE moving!
That’s why it’s important to have several activities that will help your students learn the concepts.
You know your students so be sure to tailor the activities to their needs.
EASY ASSESSMENTS
Overall, having a variety of materials and activities will give you different ways to assess student ability.
Worksheets can be a good way to assess- but if you are teaching in a “NO PRINTING” school- then using some of the group activities where students create their own patterns will work just as well.
Be sure to give students lot’s of time to practice before assessing their abilities.
Most of all, making learning fun and interactive will create a positive classroom environment where everyone has a chance to develop and grow their music skills.
I’m hoping this blog post helps you developing units of learning using a variety of materials to teach BEAT and RHYTHM in your elementary music classes.
