I’m sharing some ways to have some winter snow fun through brain breaks and movement and music activities.

I have some creative ideas on using balls, bean bags, recycled paper and “Koosh” balls to take a brain break.

WINTER SNOW FUN BRAIN BREAKS

It’s cold outside and there’s no recess. This is the time you need a variety of brain breaks and movement activities that can channel energy and keep students motivated to keep learning.

So here are some ideas on using a variety of props to keep things interesting and interactive.

SNOWBALLS EVERYWHERE BRAIN BREAK

It is time for a snowball fight! Use bean bags, recycled trash, balls, “Koosh” Balls and/or small stuffed animals to play tossing games.

Tossing games make great brain breaks.

Pretend to make a snowball, make a snowball from recycled paper or have some stuffed animals on hand.

Regular classroom teachers can use this activity as a brain break.

Music teachers and P.E. teachers can use this as a learning activity and focus on the beat, tossing skills, concentration, and exercising fine and gross motor muscles.

WAYS TO USE BEAN BAGS AND BALLS

Children love tossing balls. Here are some ideas you can use in your home or classroom.

Tossing activities can be a fantastic winter brain break for everyone. “Snowballs Everywhere” is a flexible activity song you can adapt to any environment!

Even waiting in the car!

For teachers, imagine a winter brain break for those days you can’t get outside! Easily adaptable for all grades.

Students can toss in their desk space, in personal space in PE, Music and special needs classes.

  • Play alone, play in pairs, play in small groups.
  • Practice aiming.
  • Reward days and parties.
  • Toss to the beat of music.

LYRICS

Snowballs here!

Snowballs there!

We’re tossing snowballs everywhere!

Tossing them high!

Tossing them low!

We’re tossing snowballs look at ‘em go!

Now toss!

Snowballs here!

Snowballs there!

We’re tossing snowballs everywhere!

Tossing them left!

Tossing them right!

We’re tossing snowballs day and night!

Now toss!

Snowballs here!

Snowballs there!

We’re tossing snowballs everywhere!

Tossing them around!

Tossing on the ground!

We’re tossing snowballs without a sound!

Now toss!

Snowballs here!

Snowballs there!

We’re tossing snowballs everywhere!

Tossing them over!

Tossing them under!

We’re tossing snowballs before it’s summer!

WHY TOSSING IS GOOD FOR KIDS

Tossing is good for kids because it helps with developing eye hand coordination.

Tossing side to side can aide developing right to left and high and low; up and down directional movement skills.

And, tossing can help with aiming skills.
