QUICK AND EASY HALLOWEEN MUSIC CLASS ACTIVITIES
Today’s post is full of ideas for the elementary music teacher to use during the month of October. Halloween music class doesn’t have to be “scary” or “out of control”. Keep students focused and having fun with these quick and easy Halloween music class activities.
QUICK AND EASY HALLOWEEN MUSIC CLASS ACTIVITY USING STUFFED ANIMALS #1
USE STUFFED ANIMALS TO SHOW THE STEADY BEAT
Your students will love using small stuffed animals to practice the steady beat. When students have something in their hands, they are more focused and engaged learners.
Having something to hold will help your special needs and “fidgety” students.

Here are 3 different ways to use them:
1- Try having them play the beat holding the toy in one hand and bouncing it on the palm of their other hand.
2- Lay a scarf on the floor and have them bounce the toy on the scarf.
3- Have them pat the toy on their knees (or head if you’re not worried about lice).

QUICK AND EASY HALLOWEEN MUSIC CLASS ACTIVITY USING PUMPKINS #2
USE SMALL MANIPULATIVES OR TOYS TO PRACTICE THE STEADY BEAT
Here are 3 different ways to use them:
1- Pass the “pumpkin” around the circle. Ask students to pass on the beat. Use “In the Hall of the Mountain King” music.

2- Pair students and have them pass to each other on the beat. If the toy drops, have them sit down. See who remains standing the longest. Give them a Halloween cheer! “Boooooooooo”.
3- Give everyone a pumpkin and see if the class can pass the pumpkins at the same time. Pass on the floor- slide it across to the next person.
QUICK AND EASY HALLOWEEN MUSIC CLASS ACTIVITY USING SCARVES #3
I love to USE SCARVES IN MOVEMENT ACTIVITIES
And of course, USE SCARVES TO PRACTICE THE STEADY BEAT
Again, it’s SOOOOOO helpful for classroom management to give students something to hold in their hands.
Here’s how to do it:
-
1- Create a little puppet with a large or a big head. Lay the scarf on the floor in a square.
-
Next, pick up the very center of the scarf and make a little poof at the top for the head of the puppet.
-
Try large and small puppet heads.
-
-
2- Use the puppet to show the beat. Bounce the puppet in the air either sitting or standing or moving around the room.
-
3-Use the puppet to show melodic movement, high and low.
-
4- Use the puppet to show fast and slow.
