What’s On Your Wall?

Hopefully there’s no spiders or other creepy crawlers, or splashed ketchup or worse…and we’re talking classroom walls anyway– My walls have been my walls for 13 years.  I’ve wondered why I haven’t painted them yet?  Hmmm…maybe that will happen next year. But for now…let’s take a look at some of the things I’ve got displayed to help student access information and remember key concepts.

Last year, my theme was “Magic Music Classroom” I loved the boldness of the red and black!

Here you can see my composer wall and my Rules wall.

This was the bulletin board where I posted our work as we went through the year.

This fun MUSIC wall is just outside my door-and that’s not leaving. I purchased the letters at a craft store and then used die cut lettering and craft paper to fill in the things that music is a part of in the elementary curriculum MATH, LANGUAGE, HISTORY, READING AND SCIENCE.

Here are my I Can statements. I made a little shape for each grade level and attached a magnet so that the students can find their goals easily.  I’m working on upgrading the I can’s and I’ve already printed some out this year.

This year I’m doing MAKING FRIENDS AROUND THE WORLD THROUGH MUSIC.
I already had this world that a student painted and the lettering up. I printed out my cards and made a frame out of them in the corner of my room. We see these as we line up and it’s fun to use them when the students enter the room.

Instead of the guitar I have my international children saying Hello!

And here’s my bulletin board outside my classroom with our theme. We’ll add things to it as we go–that’s why I’ve left blank space on it. I like to showcase student work or pictures on it throughout the year.

This is my new THINKING TIME poster. It has the directions for the student who needs a “rest” out.

More fun posters with the theme and my classroom management plan this year is TOP OF THE WORLD-DOUBLE THUMBS UP!

Here are the posters with my singing cat puppet.

Here’s my smart board using the world themed power point template I created as part of the decor.  My curtains are all black and white–like piano keys. The blinds don’t close so it looks bright-but it’s not. And here’s me standing on a little stage I had made for my classroom. The curtains are hanging from a PVC pipe stand that plugs into two cans with cement…it’s very sturdy…The students love to perform on it!
