Wishing you a Happy New Year and some no stress-no mess New Year music class lesson ideas.

I’m a bit worried about being “snowed” under that first week back and so to make the transition a bit easier, I pulled together a fun and easy Speech Piece as a Forever Freebie.

NO STRESS-NO MESS NEW YEAR MUSIC CLASS LESSON

This is my December gift to everyone who reads my blog. It’s in Ink Friendly print format so you can hit the ground running with all of your classes. I also made two-that’s right 2 versions so you can streamline your first day back and use this for all of your classes.

I’m sure you’ll come up with some creative ways to get your students using their music brains again. I had the idea to get a whole bunch of those Styrofoam packing peanuts and let my students go crazy over “snow”,
                     
but then thought again…

NO STRESS-NO MESS WARM UP PLAY
First, I’ll let them pretend to be playing in the snow, build a snowman and have a pretend snowball fight. Then we’ll break into some groups to work on this activity.

KINDERGARTEN IDEAS

With my Kinders, I’ll have them follow me around the circle as we chant some of the “snow” words in the speech piece.

I’ll use a small hand drum or tambourine to play the beat. Then I’ll let them move freely around the room as they chant while I play the beat.

I’ll tell them I’m looking for students who really look like they’re walking in the snow. We might even try to put 2 parts together. Here’s a sampling of some of the things you’ll

INSTRUMENT ACTIVITY

As time permits, I’ll pass out some instruments and have them play the sounds. If things are going well, I’ll try to play a beat as they play the words on the instruments.

Finally, we’ll make snow angels and rest for a bit. I am already excited to begin.
