SING SONGS TO LEARN THE DAYS OF THE WEEK
Many children love to sing and singing helps many children remember things better. Starting off with a song about the seven days of the week and singing it often will help them learn the words.
“Do You Know the Days of the Week?” is a fun song that used color and shapes to help children remember the days of the week.
“What Do You Do on the Seven Days of the Week?” is a song with an animal for each day.
Children will love making the connections between Sunday and Snake, Monday Monkey, Tuesday Turtle, Wednesday Whale, Thursday Tiger, Friday Frog and Saturday Squirrel.
The YouTube Video is a complete lesson you can use in your classroom. It’s a fun days of the week activity your students will love!

MOVEMENT ACTIVITIES TO LEARN THE DAYS OF THE WEEK
Movement is an essential element of early childhood learning. Incorporating movement with learning the days of the week can help the children learn them quicker and have fun too!
Use a different movement for each day of the week. That will make learning fun!
Just say the day and do the moves to some music.
Some fun moves are:
- SUNDAY SWIM
- MONDAY MELT
- TUESDAY TOUCH TOES
- WEDNESDAY WAVE
- THURSDAY TAP HEAD
- FRIDAY FREEZE
- SATURDAY STEP RIGHT AND LEFT
You can use any music!
Or, try a different song for each day and only do one day at a time.
Play the song and let the children dance away.
This is our Thursday song! YaY!
In our resources we use these actions.
- Sunday and Slide like a Snake

Use the presentation to teach the days and the actions and then students can self-direct using the google slides interactive game.
Your students will easily learn the days of the week after playing this fun game.

READING DAYS OF THE WEEK ACTIVITIES
Children can learn to identify the letters in the days of the week many ways.
Depending on the age of the children, they will learn to read the words at different times.
Try pausing the video and reading the letters aloud and have the children echo you. You can use posters or just write them yourself on some paper.
Soon they’ll be able to read the words too!
Keep on using a variety of days of the weeks activities over time. Repetition really works!
WRITING DAYS OF THE WEEK ACTIVITIES
After children sing and move to the days of the week they may be ready for some coloring, writing and craft activities.
- Use playdough to make the shapes of the letters in the day of the week you’re working on that day.
- Paint the word.
- Write the word in shaving cream or sand.
- Write the word with chalk.
Incorporate some tracing as well as coloring activities to offer a variety of writing opportunities.
