Fun ways to Decode Rhythms for Elementary Music Class

Do you find teaching rhythm challenging? I’m sharing some step by step how to teach rhythm activities in this video.
I’m a visual learner and a “do it” learning too- so these are the ways that work for me. I found that they work for many children.

You can use these ideas in any music teaching setting whether in elementary music, piano lessons or home school music activities.

I’ve found that the most important thing is to give students a lot of practice and a variety of ways.

That’s why I have them repeat, repeat, repeat rhythms in different games and activities.

I use play alongs, bean bag games, copycat games and reading the rhythm activities almost every class time.

It will really help them when they try to put pitch with the rhythm if the rhythm reading is EASY!

READ THE PATTERNS USING PHONETIC SYLLABLES LIKE TA AND TI TI

USE MOVEMENT TO PLAY THE RHYTHMS LIKE CLAPPING, STOMPING, JUMPING, PATTING

SAY AND PLAY THE RHYTHM PATTERNS WITH THE SYLLABLES OF THE TEXT-WORDS IN THE SONG.

PLAY THE RHYTHM PATTERNS ON INSTRUMENTS
