TEACHING TIPS
Vary the ways the children play the beat with their scarves. Use a hand drum, a rhythm instrument and music for varied experiences.
Move at the children’s pace. Teach small chunks-like one pattern a class time.
Repeat the activity over several classes.
Use the song as a CALM DOWN cue for all of your scarf or movement activities.
Children will respond better when they feel more confident in their abilities. Repeating the activity often will help them remember and do more easily when given the cue.
Remember to have fun with this activity. Make the song memorable. Tell a story as you calm down to the music. Pretend to be camping and count the stars in the sky. Comment on the bright moon and the beautiful stars in the night sky.
