Here’s an easy rhythm stick tutorial for preschool, elementary and home school music teachers. Students can get to know their rhythm sticks with this slow paced song sung to the tune of “Twinkle”. I wrote some cute winter lyrics and then added in the rhythm stick actions.
I also teach you how to “teach” the song and the hand actions.
You can use this as a complete lesson activity that will take between 10-12 minutes.
TEACHING STEPS
I’m going to go through the steps I take to teach this scarf movement song.
You’ll want to use a recording of the song so that you save your singing voice.
“SNOWFLAKE, SNOWFLAKE” is found on all the music listening services.

AMAZON
iTUNES
APPLE MUSIC
First I’ll teach the lyrics by singing the song and having the students pat the beat.
Then I’ll have them clap the rhythms.
Next we’ll sing the song together.
Then I’ll listen as they sing the song.
Now we’re ready to do the HAND ACTIONS!
You can purchase this song with and without literacy activities. It will make your teaching easier to use the music tracks and video sing along.

WINTER RHYTHM STICK ACTIVITY
Winter rhythm stick play along time with polar bear and penguin rhythm icons (pictures) and rhythms. Your students will love playing their rhythm sticks in so many different ways!
They’ll learn how to hold them and then how to read ta and ti-ti rhythms with the icons, stick rhythms and regular note head patterns. Not only will they play rhythms, but they’ll follow the shapes to play on the floor, in front of them or overhead.
They’ll be moving and playing rhythm sticks for an interactive learning experience. This resource is especially made for younger children in Preschool, Kindergarten, up to Second Grade.
