BACK TO SCHOOL SCARF ACTIVITY
Kick off your back to school activities with this school themed scarf activity. Children in Preschool through 3rd grade will love waving their scarves around at the beginning of the school year.
And, it’s important to give students opportunities to play, move, and express through movement.
Not only will they get a brain break, but scarf movement activities can help you build classroom community.
For the shy child, or student who hasn’t played with scarves before, it will be an easy opportunity for them to join in with everyone. There’s no talking or singing involved and it feels like play time.
Involving everyone in the activity helps the children bond together. This will help them work together and make music together later on in the year.
Scarf activities are an engaging way to help students make important social, emotional and physical connections.
This school time scarf movement activity makes a wonderful activity for the first few weeks of school.
WHY SCARF ACTIVITIES WORK
Children love to move with scarves and music.
Give them a scarf and watch as they learn how to move high and low, fast and slow and around.
Moving in different ways helps children learn to read and keeps their brain connections growing strong.
You’ll help your students make those important social and emotional connections as they move freely with scarves. The class playing together is just as important as them “working” together.
Scarves can be a great team building activity.
The resource has materials to help you help your children with scarf movement. And ideas for activities too.
This scarf activity video with music will keep your active students moving in the right direction.
The video has music and all of the actions.
The presentation has slides for each action, and scarf rules to review with the students.
You can use the pictures to teach the actions and then play the video.
There’s a free choice section too. You may want to have the children show you their favorite move during free choice time.
