SING A GOODBYE SONG
“I’ll Always Remember You” is on the Sing Play Create YouTube Channel.
This is a free resource in the SING PLAY CREATE free resource library.
SCHOOL IS OVER YES, IT’S TRUE
WE LOVE THE THINGS WE GOT TO DO
WE MADE FRIENDS WITH EVERYONE
MUSIC CLASS WAS SO MUCH FUN
SCHOOL IS OVER YES, IT’S TRUE
AND I’LL ALWAYS REMEMBER YOU!
In this free resource you get:
- Song
- Game
- Rhythm Writing Activity
- Music Files
- Video
First teach students the song.
The song comes with audio tracks and a video you can use to sing along.
There is also sheet music with melody note names and chords.
This way you can play it on barred instruments or ukulele.
After singing the song play the game so that students have some ideas for compliments in the writing activity.
The game goes like this:
GOODBYE GAME #1
You’ll need a bean bag or some kind of soft object students can toss.
Students will pay compliments to each other.
Gather students into a group or a circle.
Choose 1 student to start.
Give them the bean bag.
Have them stand in the middle and spin as students say or sing-“I’ll always remember you”.
On the word “you”, have them toss the bean bag gently out to the group.
The student at the front then gives the student who caught the bean bag a compliment.
That student then becomes the next “tosser”.

GOODBYE GAME #2
Instead of using a bean bag, you can have the student at the front, point and spin. Have them say the phrase, and when they stop, they’ll give the person they are pointing to a compliment.
After playing the game
Ask students to write their own poem using the compliment papers.
Post the poems on a bulletin board or use as compliment cards.
For upper elementary I recommend playing the game and doing the rhythm compliment cards. The song is for the younger children.
GOODBYE SONG #2
Here’s another easy song with sheet music and Ukulele chords.
It’s sung to “Shoo Fly Don’t Bother Me”
1-Goodbye to all my friends. Goodbye my friends goodbye.
2-Have a great summer. Goodbye my friends goodbye.
3-I’ll see you in the fall. Goodbye my friends goodbye.
Teach the song to the students.
Add in some hand actions like waving goodbye, googly “eyes” and maybe skipping in place to show they are leaving at the end of school.
One fun way to switch up this song is to change the last “goodbye” to another language like “adios” or adieu, and Sayonara (Japanese).
So you’d sing the song regular until the last line and then change that “goodbye”.
It looks like this: Adios my friends adios.
Sayonara my friends sayonara.
Adieu my friends adieu.
