EASY NAME GAMES FOR ELEMENTARY MUSIC

Name Games are an important part of helping students feel welcome in music class.

I use movement and music activities to transition into music class, sing a hello song and then we play our name game.

These activities bring my student right into music land.

I created a whole bundle of MUSIC TEACHER RESOURCE ESSENTIALS with everything you need for the elementary music classroom!

Elementary Music Class Resource :Songs, Activities, Games, Chants, Lessons, Planner, Decor BUNDLE

I do these activities every single class every single day because it helps me build relationships with my students, memorize names, builds classroom community and helps students feel comfortable singing and moving.

It’s also a great way to help student transition from classroom to hall to music room.

I believe that it’s important to build classroom community in the very first week. I use a lot of different songs and games for different grades so that the students get to learn new ones every year.

And, that way all your students will find something that they really like too!

NAME GAMES TEACH MUSIC SKILLS TOO!

And let’s not forget about learning music!  All the songs and games that I use help my students learn about music.

They’re also great for teachers on carts.

They are easy to learn, and the students can remember them quickly.

NAME GAME #1 CLAP YOUR HANDS

HOW TO PLAY THE GAME

  • CLAP YOUR HANDS
  • STOMP YOUR FEET
  • SAY YOUR NAME
  • TAKE A SEAT

Stand in a circle.

Students echo chant the lines back to you.

Clap your hands on the beat.

Stomp your feet on the beat.

The first time you play the game you may need to say their name for them or have the class say it.

The 2nd time encourage them to say their own name.

NAME GAME #2: “JOHNNY PLAYS THE DRUMBEAT”

Easy name games for the elementary music classroom can included instruments.

I use this one with my Kindergarten through 3rd grade classes.

I set the drum in the middle of the circle.  When they come into class for the first time, they are so excited to play the drum.

They LOVE to play the DRUM!

This adaptable name game is perfect for all of your music classes.

I’ve used it with preschoolers and with 6th graders.

Of course, I have to make some changes in the way I teach the game depending on the students’ ages, but it’s a great one to have in your teacher toolkit.
