Wiggly, distracted, hyper students got you down?  Try one of these 10 easy brain breaks that will help energize your students and get them refocused and ready to learn again.

10 EASY BRAIN BREAKS

Looking for some easy brain breaks you can do without a lot of prep- or any prep? These 10 easy brain breaks are just that! You can copy and paste these into a document to use anytime you need them!

Another idea is to put each activity on a card and have them ready to use in the classroom.

Or you can add them to the FREE BRAIN BREAK ACTIVITY PLANNER (GOOGLE SLIDES) with your videos and games too!

Then you’ll have all of your brain breaks in one place! That’s why they’ll be easy brain breaks too!

So here they are:

STOP AND GO

Rules: Students push their chairs in and stand up.  When the music plays, everyone moves around the room.

NO TOUCHING!

When the music stops you must be standing in front of someone else’s desk.

THIS OR THAT?

Choose 2 students to be the leaders in the front of the class. They will do dance or exercise moves.

Play music. Students in the class can copy one of the leaders.

When the music stops, the 2 leaders choose new ones.

COPYCAT

Everyone copies the actions of one student. Instead of moving/exercising/dancing, make this a SILENT game. The actions need to me slower and more subtle, like touching your left hand pinky to your right knee. The more specific and defined the better. No talking.

PANTOMIME

Divide the class into teams. One student will pantomime an action for their team. If you have time to make a list-great! If not, then choose a setting like “things you do during lunch time”, or “things you do to get ready for school”, or, “favorite books”.

Or, pantomime animals, moving objects like planes, trains, cars, etc. sports, be creative!

The team that guesses the most wins.

RELAY RACES

Divide the class into teams.  You can use the rows of desks or have students stand or sit in teams.

Use a safe object like an eraser, bean bag or squishy ball that can be passed easily from student to student. Play music to begin. Stop the music to Stop the action.

Actions: Students can stand in a line with everyone facing forwards, or side by side. Experiment with different ways to pass the objects.

The passing object should never touch the ground.

Here are some ideas; pass from front to back, pass between legs, pass overhead, pass to the side, pass with left hands, pass with right hands.

ANIMAL ACT

Children love animals. Give everyone some space. Choose whether you want “sound effects” like animal sounds or not when you play this game. Call out an animal.

Everyone acts like the animal.

The chooser then walks around the room and taps the next chooser who calls out the next animal.

You may want to use a time or play quiet music to signal when it’s time to choose another animal.

There’s a variety of exercise games on YouTube. Sing Play Create now has short brain break activities too.

SPACE WOULD YOU RATHER WORKOUT EXERCISE GAME

SPACE RUN EXERCISE GAME

In addition, you can have your students play a simple exercise game together.  Similar to Copycat, but specify that it’s a WORKOUT.  Choose a leader, the leader does an action and the class copies.

Ultimately, you’d want to create a list of your student’s favorite moves, put them on cards and in a container. That way, you can draw from the cards to make this activity best for your kids.

YOGA POSES

It seems like everyone knows how to do some yoga poses.

Give your students the opportunity to share the poses they know.

Play some mindful music and take turns stretching and getting re-centered.

This resource has a complete workout! Warm up stretches, aerobic actions, then cool down yoga poses.

MOVE YOUR BODY RESOURCE

FREEZE DANCE

Everyone dances to the music and freezes when the music stops.  If you have students who don’t like to “dance”, give them some options like clapping, tapping, marching, twisting.

You can create a playlist of music and have it ready to go.

Sing Play Create is on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music and Itunes!
