STRETCHY BAND TIP #1: TEAM BUILDING AND GET TO KNOW YOU ACTIVITIES

After all, you can use stretchy bands in music class to show how everyone in the class or choir is important. Be sure to choose a variety of musical selections from various styles, tempos, and time periods for the activities.

These four activities can be used anytime to help the students learn the importance of working together in music class. For the details, SUBSCRIBE TO THE NEWSLETTER and access these FREE ACTIVITIES.

  1. “WHO MATTERS?” ACTIVITY helps students learn that everyone matters. Relate to communication in a group, how to share, and accept responsibilities.

  2. “WHO’S UP? WHO’S DOWN?” ACTIVITY helps students understand teamwork. Relate the activity to following the conductor, singing together, and staying on pitch.

  3. “IN AND OUT WE GO!” ACTIVITY  helps students understand making music together. Relate the activity to following the conductor, singing together, and staying on pitch.

  4. “I GOT THE BEAT” ACTIVITY  helps students understand teamwork. Relate the activity to supporting each other, singing as one, and following the conductor.

STRETCHY BAND TIP #2: KEEPS HANDS BUSY

Your students will be having so much fun and they won’t be able to get out of their personal space, poke their neighbor, or even talk!

I promise!

STRETCHY BAND TIP #3: REWARD DAYS

Bring out the bands for those days when you want to reward your students for good behavior.

Great classroom management begins with helping students visualize a good behavior reward.

STRETCHY BAND TIP #4: BRAIN BREAK

Bring out the bands for the days during testing weeks (unless you have to be quiet) or post-testing weeks, no-recess days, and other times when the students are the ones who need a movement break.

Be sure to post your learning goal to fit with how you use the stretchy band.

STRETCHY BAND TIP #5: MUSIC LESSON

Bring out the bands to teach music concepts like HIGH/LOW, FAST/SLOW, DURATION and EXPRESSION. There’s more on this tip in this blog post: Innovative Creative Movement Activities with Connect-A-Stretchy Bands.

And in the blog post: “Stretch Learning with Stretchy Bands”

STRETCHY BAND TIP #6: TEACHER NEEDS A BREAK

I’m talking about those days when you are “sick” but came to work anyway. Days when you’ve lost your voice and don’t know what to do with your students. Days when you’ve got some kind of injury that prevents you from doing your regular lessons.

There are so many reasons you might need a break!
